Mom Passes Drugs to Baby During Nursing, Arrested for Cruelty
In Chalmette, Louisiana, Brittany Annis, 22, was charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile - a felony - after her five-month-old daughter was found to have benzodiazepine in her system. It is believed that she passed the drugs to her daughter by nursing.
Benzodiazepines are sedatives. Valium is one type and it’s considered a controlled substance.
Annis was initially arrested after a domestic disturbance with the baby’s father. Luckily, police noticed that the baby seemed to be crying abnormally. Annis admitted that her daughter was born with a drug addiction.
Adam Geraci, 43, the baby’s father, told police that his girlfriend was taking his prescription meds without his permission. Suuuuuuure.
The baby is in the custody of a relative. Mom is in jail in lieu of $10,000 bond for second-degree cruelty to a juvenile and $2,500 bond for domestic abuse. Dad has been booked with domestic abuse, and was later turned over to authorities in Plaquemines Parish, where he has an outstanding arrest warrant.

If the baby was born addicted to drugs why on earth wasn’t she taken away from her mom to begin with? A mother usually begins breast feeding in the hospital with the coaching of hospital staff. Why wasn’t she stopped? I would that child protective services should have been involved since she was born addicted and know that meant the mom was doing drugs and is more than likely going to continue after having the baby. I blame the mother but the system let this child down. Shame on them.

I agree with Hesmysunshine. The baby should have been taken from her before she ever got out of the hospital. When will these sorry bitches ever take being a mom seriously?

what makes me so sick is that social services goes in and out of people’s lives like these two POS’S!!!! But when it comes to families that really do try and work on stuff and really care for their children social services is right their knocking on their door and taking imidiate action!!! Whats wrong witht this picture!!! That poor baby, that baby needs to be placed in a good home and those two pieces of shit need to rot in hell!!!! How do people like this get to keep their kids when the hospital and the mother and the mothers family all knew she is addicted to drugs!!! It makes me sick to my stomach!!!
