Richard and Giovanna Mosely Charged in Death of Their Infant Son
In Abingdon, Maryland, Richard Mosely, 22, and Giovanna Mosely, 26, and family friend, Daniel Reilly, 20, were indicted by a grand jury in the death of seven-week-old Seth Mosely. The Moselys have been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse resulting in death, and second-degree child abuse.
Seth was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. Authorities are not discussing the cause of death. However, the medical examiner determined the baby’s death was a homicide. There is speculation that Seth died of shaken baby syndrome, which is often associated with cardiac arrest in infants.
The Moselys are being held on $250,000 bond.
Social services had been working closely with the family. Sadly it wasn’t enough.

Notice the lawyer who says: “It shouldn’t be assumed that having a disability and an inability to parent are things that co-exist.”
Agreed, if the disability is physical. A wheelchair user can be as great a parent as an able-bodied person if they both are mentally well. But if someone is mentally disabled or ill, as seems to be the case here, then they very likely ARE NOT equipped to deal with the demands and stresses of being a parent.
It doesn’t take a genius, social worker or lawyer to realize that truth.

It seems that social workers dropped the ball here too. Especially if both parents were calling them with their concerns.

This happened right around the corner from me! What a shame that the parents of the daughter who was mentally retarded didn’t have her sterilized when she was a minor. If your child can’t write a check or take care of her own needs, why would you allow her to move out, get an apartment, marry someone mentally ill and then reproduce? I’m blaming Grandma & Grandpa as much as CPS and the mother and father. This baby would have found a wonderful and loving adoptive home. Or, if Grandpa had petitioned the court before the child was even born, he would have been granted custody. I guarantee it! Now, he just wants to point blame at CPS for the baby’s death and ask his daughter be released to his family! What a crock!

Damn social services! They are so useless sometimes! It’s the same way here in this state. I know a girl here (her mother is my best friend) who neglects her kids. I have called social services twice! They refuse to do anything.
