  WTF is wrong with people. This makes me want to cry. This baby is going to need so much counseling. I hope she goes to a loving home where they can teach her to love herself. These 2 should be shot right away. That is the only way to assure that they will not abuse anyone ever again.

  There were apparently eye witnesses to all of this..Why the hell didn’t they come forward and report it earlier so this kid could have been saved from all of this?

  I hate it when this happens in my home town. Just a few months ago we had a 2- or 3-year old beaten to death by his foster mother. I hate to think it could happen again. Maybe the child’s father will show up and do the right thing.

  My neighbor is one of the social workers that was drawn into the case. Of course she can’t release more details than the papers, but the house has been dubbed “The house of horrors” in the papers. What a sad case, and my neighbor assures me that the child is getting all the help she needs.

  This story brought instant tears to my eyes and a huge knot in my chest I just can’t seem to get rid of! I feel so horrible for this little girl. My little girl is 5 and I can’t imagine her ever having to endure something as terrible as this. I hope this “mother” and boyfriend burn for this. I want to torture them personally. I hope she can recover, just hearing about it make me feel like I can’t recover!

  ok guys I just read that during the trial last week…The state took a “stay” on the charges against the mother. Which in layman’s terms means if no new evidence is introduced against her she will go free!

  Disgusting…I hope they both rot in hell…that poor child will be scarred forever…trauma can be so devestating to the brain and development…I hope he gets to be the biggest guy in jail’s bitch…with no lube in sight! As for the mother, I don’t even have words…I hope she chokes…

  I don’t think talking about cutting off penises and force-feeding them to the perpetrators is doing any good in this case… Personal opinion…

  this is absolutely horrible child protective services should take the child and give her to a loving family not some bent on sexual abuse and love hurting their children parents!! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!

  The really sad thing is that this ‘mother’ (or incubator as previously called) had this child taken away from her previously. This child was born addicted to crack. According to the papers the woman is no longer going to be charged with ANY sexual abuse charges, and will only be charges with a few child abuse charges. How long will she actually serve in prison? And when she gets out who is going to stop her from having more children? Baby-sitting children? etc. No one. It makes me sick just thinking about it.

  New to this incident, I had come upon Parents Behaving Badly after seeing Dr. Phil’s primetime special Caged. It dawned on me PBB had other cases on their site and came across this one which I had not heard of before, perhaps because of living in the U.S. I was as much apalled at the way some posters would like the mother and boyfriend tortured as the way they treated this little 4-year-old. Through a brief search for more information, I find the mother and child have the same last name so the mother cannot be ID’d to protect the child, and that the girl, now 5, is under the care of Alberta Child and Family Services. The few articles I read say she will not testify in court, being too young to handle the questioning, but her statements have been read. To cause a little girl to get so thirsty she will drink a mixture of Miracle-Gro liquid fertilizer and water, and even her own urine, horrifies me. I hope she is young enough to heal emotionally, physically and spiritually. Would other posters be able to explain the term “Grow-op” to me?

  This woman does not qualify to be called a “mother” or “human being” for that matter. What human being allows their child to be exposed to this, all for the sake of “their man.” She miminally could have left him and taken the child with her. So why didn’t she??????? She needs to be charged, as what she did is actually worse by allowing this to go on.

  She should not be a mother. She should die, as should he. These people are parasites praying on our children. In this case, yes they may have been the parents, but these abuse and neglected children are everyone’s children. They are our future and it is really being ruined. What do people think this world is going to become with all this happening to those who will be responsible for the future. We need to demand harsher punishment, get rid of the offenders permanently so that they can never offend again and show future perpetrators that it will not be tolerated any longer. I advise you all to wirte to anyone in power who can effect you state legislation, make more people aware of the things that are happening to our children before we have no future. They need to be protected and sheltered before it is too late.

  I heard about this on my lunch break this afternoon. It truly shocks me that somebody can do this to a child (i have a girl 2.5 years). Darcy is from grand forks BC, I have known him for years and grew up with one of his little sisters. we kind of allways new he would be a useless bum but never thought he would do something like this. My question is did he ever do anything like this to his little sister who would now be 15 or 16 ish?. Also I question wether his dad ever molested him? now im not defending him its just i know his father and he is kinda odd to. I pray that this little girl may grow up and have a normal life and i pray that her mother and darcy rot in HELL!! I will tell all of you this…. we live in a small town where these things arent taken lightly i can asure you that he will have a hard time walking the streets in my town again!

  Thank you, April, for telling me what Grow-op means. I am so naive about drugs I do not know what a marijuana cigarette looks like. To the case in point, it may sound odd to bring in Animal Precinct/Animal Cops, but I have been amazed at how horribly abused and neglected animals can be rehabilitated into loving, normal-acting family pets. It seems they can put the horror of their early life behind them. I hope this little child will be as fortunate. What happens to her “parents” is not so important as how completely she can heal. I hope the system will be responsible enough to be sure neither will be allowed near a child for the rest of their lives.

  I am shocked that the mother will go free. You know what that means don;t you? That means the little girl will have a parent!!!! YAY.

  As far as Darcy Bannert. Who is this guy? Are people like this born or made? Where is he from? I want so badly to see a simple HUMANE operation done on Child Molesters whereby they are castrated and their sexual member is removed, it might sound gross but its not NEARLY as gross as what this guy did. I gaurantee he will get out and do something disgusting again. There is ZERO rehabiliation for these people. But this woman going free and getting her child back is an abomination. Can someone start a petition against this. Someone needs to save this little girls life. This is happening right in our own backyard and we are powerless. Christ, Ill bet he gets probation or something and theyll all be back together again. Even if he gets 5 years, the little girl will only be 10 and the mother will be waiting for him to get out. Someone figure somethign out here. WHY DO WOMEN AND CHILDRENS ISSUES HAVE NO VOICE IN THIS COUNTRY???

  Susie - We (USA) go way to easy on convicted chid abusers and molesters. In any other country they would probably no make it to jail. This is one case where the punishment should fit the crime!!! I still think that they should tie this man’s penis to the back of a truck and drag him around so that people could trow rocks at him. If he that doesn’t kill him, he should be raped in prison by the man with the BIGGEST d**k repeatedly over years!!

  Reading all of these remarks,I see people saying Darcy i hope you rot in hell…you make me sick. I know the family personally..and what makes me outraged..is that these accusations have been changed over and over agian..if you follow this story from a year ago..it has changed several times. I would like to know the real TRUTH. Like why is the mom…who brought her kid into a home with Darcy…(IT WAS HER CHOICE!!!) is off on NOOO charges. NOthing! That is what makes me sick. I would like to know how that justifies..when she was just as much in the wrong..yet the paper makes it look like it was all Darcy..i’m hear to tell you it wasn’t. So maybe consider the mom could have taken the kid away..dont you think? I would be more upset with her then Darcy personally…it was her kid..her responsibility to make sure the kid is be protected..now what. She has her kid taken away….Personally i think the alberta court system is useless..if this was a real case..dont you think that the charges would be made months ago..they still have no hard evidence..did they right that in the paper either? NO! So while your off making bad comments..think about how much the media distorts reality..they are both people too. They have families.

  Ellen, I know Dacry personally too and i feel for you and how you look upon all of this. but i know what it is like to be in a situation that you just cant leave for the fear of your life or your childs. Did you evfer think that maybe she was to scared to get up and leave??? i know what Darcy is like and he is a control freak. he has been like that since he was a young boy. i completly feel for the mother. and i hope that she can get the help she needs. as for Darcy i hope after this is all said and done he gets alot of counseling. I am praying for the whole family whom ever is envolved no matter how.

  Yes it was her choice to be there. I understand that darcy was not a nice guy but there are places that this woman could have gone people that would have helped her. I am sure that she had friends or family that would have gladly helped her if she would have wanted it. I mean where did she go when she was released on bail?
  I dont think that this woman wanted help. I am not convinced that this woman is the ‘battered housewife’ that the judge sees her as…..she participated in the torture of this child and should be made to face the consquences.

  i completly agree with you they both need to be punished to the fullest extent. but i do know that she did try to leave him a few times but she was trapped in a sence. any who i can not wait till the end of july sentencing here we come. i hope Darcy gets whats comming to him. and i really hope that she cant have any more children cause honestly she needs to get help for her self.

  I want to know how to lobby to the AB govt to make sure this child never goes back to the mother. I know the guy is a creep. The mother abaded the crime and did the crime. Equally. They both deserve to rot equally, this is a messed up situation as Edmonton is famous for.Someone figure a way to help this child so she never has to go back to that horrible witch or the boyfriend.   I know darcy from childhood and i knew he was a bad ass but I never knew how much. This is the most horrifying thing I’ve ever heard and I just want to throw up. That poor innocent little girl.   Sometimes, Larissa, I feel the non-abusive parent who does nothing to end the abuse is more guilty. The abuser might be an alcoholic, a drug addict, or be mentally ill and not in control of their actions while the other parent might be in full control of their senses and ought to know better than to sit back and let the abuse go on. I don’t go for inhumane types of punishments as some seem to in comments, but I would hope child protective services would do as animal rescue agents do in similar circumstances and make sure they don’t have access to any more children — their own or someone else’s.

  Wow, these stories get worse and worse. I compassionately hope they get the full punishment allowed by canadian law.

  It is cases like this (even tho this didn’t happen inthe US) that I think are good arguments for allowing the death penalty for child rape.
