Microwave baby update: Devil made him do it, says wife

The father, Joshua Mauldin, told police he put the baby in the microwave because he was under a lot of stress. He made no mention of the devil, just stress.
Refusing to believe her husband would do such a thing, she instead believes the devil made him do it. It’s amazing what the human mind is able to believe, what it’s able to deny and how it can fabricate its own reality.
Eva Marie Mauldin claims the devil made her husband put their baby in the microwave in order to thwart his efforts of becoming a preacher. If this was true, I would say he was successful. I would definitely not attend any church with a baby microwaving preacher!
Eva is currently fighting to custody of her baby back. Child Protective Services is fighting for the opposite. She would probably have had better luck, if she kept this little “devil made him do it” business to herself.
She sounds like a nut job and probably should not be raising any kids.
The baby girl is still in the hospital with third-degree burns to the left side of her face and left hand

When I read the article, I became sick to my stomach. Now, the original was really bad - one of the worst things I’ve ever read. But for this wacko to be DEFENDING his actions??? She should be forced to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

and how dare she use religion to explain this???? if the devil took over long enough to nuke a baby, then i’d be willing to be he didn’t leave immediately after, so get that man to an exorcist and then get them both to the freaking nuthouse.

What if the authorities give them a turkey and just tell them its their baby. Unless the devil tells them they will never notice the difference. Then, if they ever got the urge to put their baby in the microwave again they would only be cooking dinner.

I love my husband very much and believe the vow I made “…until death do us part…” He is a loving, devoted father and husband. But if “the devil” ever made him hurt one of my children, I would keep my vow of staying with him until death. Of course I would be the one killing him for hurting my baby, but what mother wouldn’t ? This woman shouldn’t be allowed to be within a hundred miles of any child, much less this poor angel. How could she defend him ?

The devil made him do it…are we back at this point in our society to blame the devil for crazy behaviors and acts? This guy is a disgusting freak and that “mother” if you can call her that, is not any better…Maybe she can be the one to explain to this poor little girl that the devil made her Daddy scar her face for life…I hope they both rot in hell…where the “devil” can pull their eyeballs out through their rectums for the rest of eternity…

If they give her that baby, CPS has just once again proved that they are never going to do their job right. I find it interesting that on another related article, this so-called mother claims that it was the so-called father who comforted her when she cried, took her to the doctor when she was sick, so if she wouldn’t take care of the baby before and the father had to do it, what should make anyone think she would take care of the baby now? Of course, she’s also claiming the father has an “undisclosed mental disability, and that her efforts to get help for him have failed.” OF COURSE he has a mental disability - who is gonna nuke their kid and then say they were sane? Duh.
Blaming the devil is a new one I’m going to have to add to my list of steps to follow for committing a crime in America and getting off, step #1 being blame the BHS (bushy-haired stranger) or if none is available then blame someone else; if THAT fails, blame the unicorn (see my link).

This whack job and his wife claim to be Christians but they don’t know one of the basic teachings of Christianity? The devil doesn’t “make” anyone do anything. Evil can only enter a person’s life and act through them if they allow it. If they were real Christians, the thought of committing such an evil act - or defending someone who does it - would never enter their pea brains.

That woman needs to not be allowed near her child or anyone else’s, for that matter.
It’s interesting that the devil seems to show up on the scene a lot when people realize they’ve been caught doing something bad and they just don’t have the intelligence to think up anything better. The same people usually find Jesus in jail. It always amazes me that people who say they have faith do the most horrendous things and then blame their actions on the religion they preach.

A lot of sick, evil people use religion to either justify their actions or obtain “forgiveness.” Every time I hear one of these stories, I can’t help but think of that Dennis Miller joke about God commenting on the televangelist scandals of the 80s and 90s (remember those?). Miller quoted “the Almighty” as saying “I don’t know who these people are, I’ve never met them in my life, and I wish they’d quit using my name!”

HELL NO, this women is just as much guilty as her husband IMO by defending him and worrying more about his reputation as monster, rather than defending her helpless 2 mo. old daughter.
They are BOTH unfit and should never have the chance to see that sweet baby again. The baby was very lucky to survive this but may not be so lucky next time. I say this child needs to go to a couple that longs for a sweet baby of their own that maybe is unable to have children.

are you k’ing kidding me? i just read the links above and this is crazy. these fuckers need to never see this baby again and it is sick that they got away with putting the baby not only in the microwave put in the fridge and safe and he kicked her in her GROIN AREA!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!! how do people like this even make it in society and the mom does not even seem concerned that he did this to HER DAUGHTER! but i will bet any amount of $$ , in the end, she’ll have that baby back

WOW. There is a video on cnn.com right now and the mother described what the baby looked like when she found her after the microwaving, hands “split open”. Good heavens what unbearable torture. She needs to renounce her “minister”-wannabe husband if she ever wants to see her daughter again. Not that she will, religious wackos.

the one small mercy in this is that the baby is so young - hopefully she won’t remember any of it and hopefully her new foster family will raise her the way she deserves to be raised… in a loving home where parents use appliances for cooking her meals rather than cooking her skin.

This story really enrages and sickens me. What kind of people in their right minds would be able to place a helpless infant in immediate danger. A mothers first instinct is protection. This person is neither a woman or a mother and should never be around another child again. She deserves to be behind bars, matter-of-fact, put her ass in a microwave an let her cook!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just plain disgusting.

If it were my husband, I don’t have one but if I did and he did anything at all to my precious child I would be sending him to meet the devil! I would kick his ass and burn him myself! A lot of the cases profiled here do share this common theme: a woman who has more loyalty to her man/ is more intent on not losing her man than she has protective instinct for her child. I think this is a large part of what separates these people from the rest of us.

I think you’re absolutely right, Michelle. It seems far too many of these cases are exactly that, a woman who is more concerned about making sure she has something going into her nether-regions on a regular basis and can’t take responsibility for what’s already come out of there.
We’ve evolved into a “me” culture hiding behind a curtain of legal and illegal substances and availability of the often-used loophole defense of “mental illness.” As long as it’s allowed to be used, it will continue to be. Perpetrators know they will receive very little in the way of punishment (for the most part) and the system allows them to do these things over and over because there are no longer any brakes on that vehicle. It’s out of control and our legislators and judiciary have proven they will not do anything to fix the problem. Children have no value whatsoever in the eyes of the system created to protect them and are nothing more than a meal ticket and/or a burden to those who keep breeding them.
There need to be stricter sanctions on child physical abuse and neglect, child murder, and child sexual abuse. Those who are convicted need to recieve a meaningful punishment.

The father had a criminal record already…violence against the mother and violating a restraining order put in place to protect the mother. What a load of bull. If she wants to stick around with this guy, let her. Sounds to me like he IS the devil. He’s a violent person PERIOD. Obviously, they both have some mental problems.
I am so glad that they are taking steps to terminate the parental rights. No one deserves this, especially not an innocent helpless baby.

I saw that also about his past and that she had filed restraining orders against him, so why did she go back? She knew what he was like and went back anyhow. So…… in keeping with the laws the legislators were paid to create to protect children, they should go after the mother for failure to protect, which is a felony in many states.

Not to minimize the father(and I use that term loosely!)’s actions by any means, but sweet jesus, the mother(I use that loosely, too!)’s so much worse. To sit there -after this atrocity has been unleashed on your poor, defenseless, infant daughter- and have the gall to shrug it off with a statement that the Devil is to blame. WHAT PLANET IS SHE FROM - and more importantly, where the hell’s her outrage and concern for that poor kid? I really hate to think this child’s fate lies in the hand of CPS…

no, she should not have custody of this child. why are people so screwed up in the head?? i really just cannot comprehend this. but, no she should not have her child back, she should not have visitation rights, take the baby to someone who will care for her the way she should be cared for. and as for this child father, thats the reason right THERE why canada should have the death penalty!!!

Those statements will enable the court to keep this troubled woman from setting foot near that poor child.

This guy is deranged but WTF is up with her?!! I cannot imagine having a new baby, some abusive sick fuck doing something like that to her and DEFENDING him. God, how I hate these dumb bitches who choose a man before they choose their own baby. What the hell is she thinking and what is going on in Texas?!!! It seems like we hear more of these atrocities involving mothers killing their kids and child abuse in general, happening in Texas! Why?
