Parents Behaving Badly

19-year-old man arrested after putting 2-month-old daughter in microwave

by joelnet on May 16th, 2007

Joshua Mauldin lied to the hospital workers. He claimed the burns to his 2-month-old baby was just a simple accident, made when carrying a pot of hot water. Why he thought he could pass this lie off at Shriners Burns Hospital, I’ll never know. I’m pretty sure if your specialty is burns, you can tell the difference between hot water and microwave burns pretty easily.

What actually happened was, this monster placed his 2-month-old baby girl in the microwave and turned it on for 10-20 seconds until she suffered third-degree burns on her face and hands.

That is some serious cold blooded sh*t. This is far worse than getting angry and hitting your child. He had to pick her up, go to the kitchen, place her inside the microwave and set it to cook while leaving her inside. How sick must your mind be for you to actually think up this crap?

Well, the people over at MyDeathSpace.com have found Joshua Mauldin’s MySpace profile. For someone who claims to be a Christian and talks about accepting God as his personal savior, his actions are seriously misaligned with what he preaches.

This charge carries a possible prison term of up to 99 years. I hope this piece of trash gets the maximum.

I just can not imagine someone, anyone, getting up in the morning and thinking “Today I think I will try putting the baby in the microwave”. What a sick bastard. In those 20 seconds may have changed that baby, HIS BABY !, life forever.

    Quiz result from profile

“You are an F-22 Raptor. You probably have a temper. You are unexperienced and looking to prove yourself. You also have cutting edge equipment in everything. You have enough toys to make James Bond jealous. You could easily be popular, just remember to keep the temper down.”

Damn, those stupid blog quizzes are accurate.

He likes to cook and he’ll try anything once, huh? Must have been trying to combine shit here, when he tried to cook his baby. Sick. He’ll claim mental illness, of course, and walk away with a slap on the wrist, get the kid back after a couple of “parenting classes” and breed some more, then one day we’ll see his kids on the news taking guns to school and blowing the shit out of their classmates and teachers.

    Oh, yeah.

“For someone who claims to be a Christian and talks about accepting God as his personal savior, his actions are seriously misaligned with what he preaches.”

Under Christianity, he’s forgiven so long as he believes in Christ and repents. And Christians wonder why atheists have no respect for their moral standards.

I cannot believe that someone could microwave a child. What the hell is wrong with this man? And when he lied and said her burns were due to hot water… Why in the hell would you carry your 2 month old daughter with a pot filled with hot water? That makes me sick to my stomach. I hope that scum bag gets what he deserves in jail.

I know the report said she had burns on the outside but does any one know if any internal damage was done? People who “use” God to define themselves are liars! May God Bless this baby! I am not a liar! (smiles)

  • MsMonster
    May 17, 2007 at 11:13 am

I’m sure there is internal damage considering she was put in a microwave. That’s just like someone going into a tanning bed, It eventually would do some sort of damage to your organs.

  • Rosemary Amey
    May 17, 2007 at 12:36 pm

    This is evil.

I thought microwaves cooked from the inside out. So if her skin was burned, what about her internal organs?

I feel sick thinking of the pain that baby must be going through.

  • Robot B9
    May 17, 2007 at 12:43 pm

Microwaves cook from the outside. If burns to the skin are not bad enough microwaves can also do damage to eyes if they were open. :(

  • MsMonster
    May 17, 2007 at 12:44 pm

Microwaves do cook from the inside out. I can’t believe that baby even survived. She is probably going to have some sort of organ failure. Bless her little soul…

You know, he claims to be a discharged soldier…at 19? Obviously, something is wrong with him…ok…maybe it’s physical, but it sure looks likes he’s nuts! He needs to stop giving soldiers a bad name the scumbag….That poor baby…Can you imagine how that child will feel someday? You know he’s going to find out and wonder why his Dad tried to kill him…too too sick…

  • joelnet
    May 17, 2007 at 8:35 pm

Microwaves cook from the ouside in like how everything else cooks. Haven’t you noticed your microwaved food hot on the outside and cold in the center?

  • shauna olsen
    May 18, 2007 at 12:32 am

The news said that she is in critical but stable condition right now, but they will have to check to see if any brain damage was done too. For that kind of burn for the brain it would be equal to boiling it in a pot of hot water. Bless her heart the pain has too be alot for her. I dont think the mother was there, there was no mention of her or her mother in law being there at the time. That false sense of security thinking that the man you love would take good care of your child and then this happens. I hope she makes damn sure he never gets to see the child again–if she survives!

I am a non denominational christian, and I too believe God will forgive an honest soul asking for forgiveness. But think not badly of those of us residing under Gods encompassing umbrella, for even those of us who have lived exemplary lives(no not me!!) we will still have to face Him before our afterlife is decided upon. Whatever judgements man places on this “dad” (& I hope its at the very least something to make him think) it will be nothing compared to the day when he faces our Lord and saviour at the gates to heaven. Lets not forget that the Lord gave man his free will, what we do with that is how we are judged by man and God, either way, this “man” will have to look into the eyes of his maker and explain his actions. Lies won’t get him real far with God, infact, he may just find himself “cooking” his soul for all of eternity. Kind of comforting don’t you think.
May God bless and keep that precious little child, I hope her fathers stupidity does not cause her a lifetime of pain, and I hope her lifetime can be long, normal and comfortable.
This 19 yr old, he’s still a child himself, he had no right having children of his own. I hope the baby’s family do not let this idiot near her ever again. I hope she and her moron father live long enough that she can tell him what she thinks of him. I hope this unsavory beast of a human is painfuly aware of the monsters lurking forever just beyond his vision, I hope he never has another nights peaceful sleep. I hope this is someones idea of a sick joke…

Evil exists in the world. This creature is proof of it. But evil does not come into the world through God - whether you call him Allah, Jesus, Budda or Krishna. Evil enters the world through the selfishness of human beings who choose to use the free will God gave them to commit acts that harm others. Every religion in the world teaches redemption for those who seek it. And every religion also teaches that those who do harm without repenting it will face a punishment in the next life far worse than anything that can be imagined in this one.

I take offense to this remark - “This 19 yr old, he’s still a child himself, he had no right having children of his own.”

His age had nothing to do with it. I know several young parents, myself included, who are the best damn parents you’ll ever meet. I also know of several older parents who are terrible parents. To say something like that is just completley ignorant, and had nothing to do with what this guy did.

  • alalee

You hit the nail right on the head, Lauren. There is no criminal justice anymore, at least in cases where the perpetrator is doing their utmost to manipulate a severely broken system. Someone swiped Lady Justice’s blindfold and used it for toilet paper. Anyone can do anything anymore and not be held responsible if they claim they’re sick in the head and if you’re famous, you’ve got a Get Out of Jail Free card right there.

I also agree, his age really has nothing to do with it. Evil comes in all shapes and forms, and this time it just happened to come wrapped up in a shit-stained packaged shaped like a young man.

i honestly cant comment, i cant explain how disturbed and sick this made me. im 21 yrs old and have the most beautiful 10 month old baby girl. when i read the story, i just wanted to hold her, kiss her and love her more than ever (like if it was possible). i feel so much anger, like many of you i as well wanted to beat the shit out of him, but then i realized that wouldnt solve anything. this guy needs to be locked up with some of the most dangerous convicts. everyone knows they dont even put up with guys like this, they would take care of him just fine. i just hope in some great miracle, the little girl lives and has no long term effects, physically or mentally. i wish the best for the mom (if she didnt have anything to do with it)

N… I sincerely apologize. I meant no offence to young parents in general. What I was trying to say was that at 19, he obviously hasn’t had enough life experience to appreciate what gifts he has before him. I certainly did not mean that this was the case for all young parents. My cousin was a mum at 16 and she was and is now, 20 years later, an awesome mum. And yeah, older people can be real bad parents too. If I may use myself as an example… I have 2 beautiful children, and I strive everyday to show them all the love I am capable of giving. But at 35, I have led somewhat of a tortured existence and occasionally have moments where I am not the person I want to be. At these times I need to find a quiet corner to sit down and cry, begging God for his guidance and forgiveness. I’ve never done anything to warrant having people talk about me like this, but i am so frightened that one day I might.
I feel that for this boy, 19 was the wrong age for HIM to be a parent, as he doesn’t seem to have grown up much himself. I congratulate you for being such an exemplary parent, it must be wonderful to be the roll model the rest of us need to look up to.

I agree with “ihavekidstoo” it doesn’t matter which God you believe in, I don’t know for sure but I reckon in the long run your gonna find all religion is built on the same principals and that you can’t blame a higher power for what this guy did, or the other idiots out there doing atrocious things. Please don’t condemn God for what this guy did or other people that claim faith yet do unspeakable things. Just coz they say they have faith, doesn’t mean they do. Didn’t that Corby girl claim faith to receive better treatment in jail… where’s her faith now? People use it as an excuse, a costume if you like, its not something you can just put on, its a way of living. If a good person, who has led a kind and good existence but doesn’t know God, they’ll still be accepted into Gods kingdom, because of the way they have lived their lives. Just coz this guy says he’s christian, doesn’t mean he’ll automatically be forgiven, that’s something that needs to be earned and he’ll be judged on the things he’s done AND the lies he’s told. What he did, and what he’s saying now, its repulsive. I would like for nothing less than to see this guy go through what he put his daughter though, but its not for me to wish something like that, what kind of christian would I be then? I hope that the justice that is brought upon him will be severe and that he is made to suffer the rest of his existence and that he spends the rest of his life in misery, I also ask for forgiveness for wanting that for him. I am only human and have not achieved perfection, I’m trying not to throw stones from my glass house but when I see acts like this it is so very hard for me to be the person my Lord would want me to be.

    An update from CNN:

“A woman blames the devil, and not her husband, for severely burning their infant daughter in a microwave, a Texas television station reported.

Eva Marie Mauldin said Satan compelled her 19-year-old husband, Joshua Royce Mauldin, to microwave their daughter May 10 because the devil disapproved of Joshua’s efforts to become a preacher.

“Satan saw my husband as a threat,” Eva Mauldin told Houston television station KHOU-TV.”

    Can you say LOONEY?

  • JJ
    May 20, 2007 at 4:47 pm

Microwaves don’t really cook from the outside in, but the radio waves penetrate the food and excite water and fat molecules pretty much evenly throughout the food. No heat has to migrate toward the interior by conduction. There is heat everywhere all at once because the molecules are all excited together.

So, unlike in a conventional oven, where the outside is heated up first, in a microwave oven, it’s all pretty much heated at the same time, and that is why the internal organs are readily damaged.

  • joelnet
    May 20, 2007 at 6:22 pm

You are correct about the water molecules getting excited, but wrong about heat being distributed everwhere.

This is a HUGE microwave myth.

Has nobody ever pulled food out of the microwave that has been hot to the touch but COLD inside?

  • joelnet
    May 20, 2007 at 6:25 pm

Microwave’s cook from the outside in. Please read about the inside–>out myth… http://www.abc.net.au/science/k2/moments/s1204808.htm

You can also test this by microwaving cold food and sticking your finger past the warm outer surface in the cold center.

I just received the following as a MySpace bulletin:

    Sunday, May 20, 2007

GALVESTON, Texas — A woman blames the devil and not her husband for severely burning their infant daughter after the 2-month-old was put in a microwave, a Houston television station reported.

Eva Marie Mauldin said Satan compelled her 19-year-old husband, Joshua Royce Mauldin, to microwave their daughter May 10 because the devil disapproved of Joshua’s efforts to become a preacher.

“Satan saw my husband as a threat. Satan attacked him because he saw (Joshua) as a threat, ” Eva Mauldin told Houston television station KHOU-TV.

A Galveston County grand jury indicted Joshua Mauldin last week on child injury charges after hearing evidence that he placed his daughter in a motel microwave for 10 to 20 seconds.

The infant, Ana Marie, remains hospitalized. She suffered burns on the left side of her face and to her left hand, police said.

Eva Marie Mauldin, the girl’s 20-year-old mother, told the television station that her husband is “not the monster people are making him out to be.”

“That was not my husband; my husband is a wonderful father, ” she said. “Satan was working through his weaknesses.”

Eva Maudlin described those weaknesses as an undisclosed mental disability, and that her efforts to get help for him have failed.

Police said Joshua Mauldin told them he put Ana Marie in the microwave because he was under stress. The family had arrived in Galveston the day before.

Eva Maudlin, who met her husband in an Arkansas church, denied those claims by police.

“He would never do anything to hurt her. He loves her, ” she said. “When she cries he is the one who comforts her. When she is sick, he is the one that takes her to the doctor.”

Joshua Mauldin, of Warren, Ark., came to Galveston with his wife and mother because he was called to be a preacher, his wife said. While Joshua Mauldin’s mother has returned to Arkansas, Eva Mauldin remains in Galveston.

She is hoping to be reunited with her daughter, but Child Protective Services is working to have her and Joshua Mauldin’s parental rights severed. A custody hearing for the infant is scheduled for later this week in a Galveston district court.

Joshua Mauldin faces a charge of injury to a child causing serious bodily harm, which carries a possible prison term of five to 99 years, as well as a fine of up to $10, 000.

Eva Mauldin has set up a MySpace page, “Joshua Mauldin is not a Monster, ” in hopes of defending her husband and making pleas for people to help her.

So she says: “Joshua Mauldin is not a Monster” ? But he appears to have put his baby in a microwave and pressed “warm”. Hmmm, that sure spells MONSTER to me!

Maybe when Mr Mauldin gets to his new living quarters in a federal correctional institute his new friends will give him a gift. A prison tattoo on his forehead that says: “Microwave Baby” !

What a sick bastard. Who in the hell is that demented in the effin head to put a baby in the microwave?!?!! I say… This man doesn’t deserve to call himself a father. No person in their right mind would do something like this. I mean.. SERIOUSLY. What the hell was he thinking. “Hm.. I think my baby deserves a time-out…. In the MICROWAVE”?!?!?! I am appalled at this. I know there are some pretty sick, twisted people in this world, but still, thats ridiculous. Poor baby. I’m sure she’ll be traumatized the rest of her life.

Did anyone NOT think this worthless excuse for a human being would plead not guilty by reason of insanity. OF COURSE HE’S INSANE!!! SANE PEOPLE DO NOT MICROWAVE BABIES!!! WHY IS THIS EVEN BEING ENTERTAINED AS A DEFENSE?

Why is “insanity” EVER a defense for harming another person? You know what, you’re “insane” if you can’t tell the difference between right and wrong, if you commit a heinous crime in broad daylight, in front of witnesses, and then go brag about it to anyone who will listen. THEN I might buy you’re insane.

But someone who commits a crime like this and tries to HIDE it - that person KNOWS that what he did was wrong because he tried to keep anyone from knowing it - and thus avoid the consequences of his actions.

I HATE these B.S. mental illness defenses. There are plenty of people in this country with REAL mental illnesses - from bipolar disorder to chronic depression - who would never DREAM of harming another person, or of blaming their illness for it if they did.

I noticed in the article it says that the mother and the father are not allowed any contact with the little girl!!! Yeah! At least she is safe with family (we hope). He wasn’t insane. He wasn’t even close to insane and I bet you the jury, judge and prosecutors will see right through this defense.

I’m kind of skeptical about how much better off she is with a family that produced either of her loser parents. But hopefully she is better off. And I pray you’re right, Shel, and that the jury won’t be fooled.
