Update on Shyla Chapman Story - Lysol Does Not Contain Para-Cresol
I received this email today:
Hi Anne-Marie,
In the ongoing story and trial of Shyla Chapman, references have been made to the existence of para-cresol in Lysol Disinfectant Spray. Moving forward, please ensure your viewers are aware that Lysol Disinfectant Spray does not contain para-cresol.
As a company, our number one priority is to ensure the health and safety of consumers and we would like to reassure your readers that Lysol is completely safe and effective when used as directed.

All the news reports used the word “Lysol” and supposedly Shyla said “Lysol” in her confession to police. But like a lot of household products - Coke, Jell-o, Band-Aids, et al - we tend to use the brand name even when it’s a generic product.
My apologies go out to Lysol. As Tony said, it’s a completely safe product when used as directed. However, I’m sure spraying it in your baby’s face isn’t an approved method of use no matter what the brand of disinfectant is.

Okay, so it wasn’t LYSOL. It was a cleaner. Thanks for the clarification so we don’t all throw out Lysol. But STILL!

Well I do think we kinda did owe Lysol that one for talking all about it like that and stuff.. but it doesnt change the fact that it was something of that matter that killed that baby. So either way.. there was houshold cleaners in the mix, along with a purely demented woman, and that poor child. GRRRRRRR some parents just get under my skin sometimes.. Im not even a full parent yet and I just couldnt fathom doig that to a child much less my own…. GRRRRR

Do you ask for a Kleenex or a tissue when you sneeze? I ask for Kleenex no matter which brand (which usually is generic b/c who really cares what you blow snot into, you’re just going to chuck it in the rubbish) I use. Sometimes popular companies get caught up in their own success and name recognition. It’s just another part, like it or not, of being a big-time retail player.

Did you see that it was Lysol? There are other products you can buy for that purpose. Just curious.

Oh no…LARGE spray can of Lysol…

I would say that’s a good thing if there weren’t any new stories to report since Monday. That would be a first.

Yeah, but there are new stories to report. This little bit of loveliness, for example:

It just seems like things are being run a little differently here now. Maybe that’s just my perception.

Colin,
That’s an awful story. I don’t know how anyone could do that to a child.

The dark amber saponated concentrated form of Lysol DOES contain p-cresol. The liquid would have had to have been poured into the bottle, thus making it more of a premeditated murder. There are many other cleaners that contain p-cresol as well, so really it is hard to say, but the fact that Chapman said “Lysol” is suspicious.
Look up lysol poisonings and suicides and you will find info on it. It doesn’t take much, especially for a baby.
Spraying something in the spur of the moment to quiet the baby certainly is less of an implication of murder than pouring something in the baby’s bottle. Wouldn’t you think?????
