Parents Behaving Badly

Elizabeth Dillon Leaves Three Kids in Car for Over Three Hours, Doesn’t See Anything Wrong with That

by admin on January 17th, 2007

SaddleHere’s one for the ages from Sand Lake, Michigan. 28-year-old Elizabeth J. Dillon can’t understand why authorities are so angry that she left her three kids, twins age 6 and a 22-month-old - in a running pickup truck for over three hours while she waited for a saddle shop to make her parts for a bridle. The irony is that the owner of Circle JF Saddlery in Lowell has a special room where kids can wait. But, no - Dillon decided it was better for them to wait over three hours in a running vehicle that was parked in a two-hour parking spot, while she hung out alone in the shop and watched the owner work. Nothing happened to the kids before police arrived…unless you count the baby, who was sitting in his own piss.

Brilliant.

Dillion insists that she’s a “good mom” who made mistakes, but shouldn’t be charged with felony child abuse. Too bad she never heard of Amy Elizabeth Calvin, who found out the hard way what can happen when you leave your child in a car unattended for even a few minutes. Not to mention what might have happened if the 6-year-old had figured out how to get the vehicle out of Park. Good GOD, woman, where’s your paranoid parental imagination?!

Saddlery owner Joel Forrest, who was much less gobsmacked than Dillon, hit the nail on the head: “If you go into a gas station and you have kids,” he told reporters, “you take them in with you.” Precisely.

Dillon’s kids are back with her while she fends off charges of second degree child abuse. If i were her, I’d practice begging for mercy. Stupidity may not be a great defense, but in this case, it’s the only defense she has.

She also clearly never heard of Kevin Kelly of Loudoun County, Virginia, whose toddler daughter died after he forgot to remove her from a van after running errands (but he had 11 other kids to distract him, and his wife and eldest daughter were out of the country caring for a sick relative).

And what a waste of gasoline. Amazing she didn’t run out of gas, although it would have served her right.

Years ago when I was living in California, I actually saw that some moron had left his kid in the car, with the engine running, while he stopped inside a convenience store to pick up some stuff. Is it really THAT hard to take the kid with you? Sheesh!

I just hate selfish parents. 3 hours. Those poor kids, probably bored out of their minds not to mention the safety issues (like trying to drive the car)which are a given. And maybe the twins had to use the bathroom or were hungry. If I had twins and a 22 mo old, I’d want to show ‘em off. I take my little guy (11 months) everywhere. I actually enjoy my kid’s company. Why do some people ahve kids at all?

K for all of you that want to run your mouths without knowing the whole story here you go…

first of all. She checked on the boys repeatedly, secondly, they weren’t bored, they were sleeping. Thirdly it wasn’t his own ‘piss’ his bottle had a hole in the bag and had leaked all over him. Also, she drives a truck, and she took the keys out, and locked the doors, while she left her Diesel(not gas)truck running. She has four boys, don’t you think it’s better to let them sleep rather than “show them off” are you serious?!?! So please, all of you, know all the facts before you place judgement on the women. You have no idea how good she is with her boys, and how much they love her. She made a mistake, she only did it because they were sleeping. Now a women who has never been in trouble..EVER..faces up to four years in prison because someone had act like a hero. Do you realize how much i just corrected all of you. Honestly, look at how much bologna you just said about a women you don’t even know. I do know her because i am them boys’ babysitter. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but either support liz, or don’t, but dont’ run your mouths about her!

TO THE SHIT TALKIN SINTHIA BITCH…i don’t know you and frankly i dont want to. but i do want to say something about the Liz Dillon case that you think you know so much about. Liz isn’t stupid, alright you don’t know her so where do you get off talking like that about somebody. The boys were sleeping in the truck when she left them, she took the keys and locked the doors and left the truck running. She’s not begging for mercy because she isn’t a bad mom. if you knew her-you’d know that. She has four boys, and the youngest one was NOT sitting in piss, his bottle bag had a hole in it and it had leaked. So get the story straight before you run your damn mouth. She made a mistake and if she had known there was a room for kids, she would have used it, but it’s funny how joell, never said anything to her about the room. so way to go smart one…either support her or dont but don’t run your f-ing mouth about her!

This is a case of a mom using bad judgement. If they were all sleeping, I understand why she would THINK it would be better to leave them in there, but obviously she is not aware of all the trouble she could get into by doing that. This is not the same as those parents leaving their kids in a hot car so they could shop. The comment about “sitting in his own piss” is silly…babies almost always need a change! I understand how hard it is to do anything that has to do with errands with children, much less four. I remember when I was four, my mother left me in the car to go into a drugstore, and me being four ( and bored) I decided to put a pencil in the ignition and broke it off…a tow had to come, a police man tried to help, but Mom ( a wonderful Mom at that )was not in trouble. Now I think, what the heck was she thinking? Times have changed. When you know better, do better. And I am sure Ms. Dillon wishes she WOULD have brought in 4 grumpy, tired kids into that shop.

Would it really matter if she left her kids in a car running or not running for 10 minhutes or three hours? This is a horrible thing to do. what if someoone would have grabbed them. And since i dont own a diesel like the babysitter has previously posted , i dont understand how you can take your keys out and still have your car running!?! It’s amazing that people always tend to defend someone they know when something like this happens, but people who only hear or read about these type of bad judgement calls or jsut ignorant acts voice their opinion and in most cases they are not so understanding,But in my opinion ,why shbould anyone feel compelled to feel sorry for this woman or give her a break ,since this was her first time doing this,What if the kids would have died? her first would have been the babies last.If the babysitter didnt know her i bet she wouldnt be defending her, she would probably have formed her own opinion about this stupid act of this woman, failing as a mother.WTF was she thinking?and who the f*&% waits at a store to have something make something for you.I’d be like, can you call me when it’s ready! i wonder if that thought ever came into play. And it is not the shop owners responsibilty to tell this crazed woman that he had a place for her babies. Its this womans responsibility to care and love her babies.it amazes me how lacking lots of these breeder
    s are..

Remaining anonymous, I don’t know who you are to defend such stupidity but what she did was wrong, pure and simple. You don’t leave your kids in the car, especially for THREE HOURS! I can’t even believe anyone would defend someone who did that. Anything could have happened to either one of them. Someone could have stolen them, one of them could have choked on something, one of them could have found the gear shift and something tragic could have happened. It was stupid. She shouldn’t have done it. I don’t have any sympathy at all for her.
