Mom Faces Involuntary Manslaughter for Killer Joint

I’ve said it before, and it bears repeating: I detest the “war on drugs”. The arbitrary prejudice piled on marijuana and other intoxicants is based in nothing but fear-mongering. If people want to use responsibly, I have zero issue with that. But there’s the key word: responsibly. And by “responsibly”, I mean, oh, not burning your house down with a lit joint and killing your child. Hot tipper Karen Rani of Troll Baby found just such a sad case via Digg involving Idaho Falls, Idaho mom Savannah Berrey, who’s facing involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 4-year-old son Eric Brady.

Berrey and her lawyers deny that she’s responsible for the inferno. This, despite numerous witness reports that she wandered around the scene of the blaze crying, “What have I done?” Call me cynical, but I don’t think Berrey’s going to find a sympathetic jury waiting for her after closing arguments.

Note to all parents who enjoy their smoke: this is why God invented bongs.
