Parents Behaving Badly

Texas Mom Charged after Leaving Baby in Car for Six Hours

by admin on October 30th, 2006

Mission, TX Weather

I was going to lead off this story by saying that it’s a good thing it’s October, and that the temperatures are dropping. Then I noticed that the incident occurred in Mission, Texas. Well, Texas ain’t Seattle, so I looked up the recent weather report from there. Temps in Mission are still rising into the mid-80s, occasionally kissing 90 degrees. If it hit 85 by mid-day, it would only take 40 minutes for the temperature inside of the car to hit 120 degrees.

Given that, it’s almost a miracle that nothing happened to the 11-month-old daughter of Patricia Ann Segundo, who left the child in her car from 5am until 11am. If it hadn’t been for a tenant discovering the child, Segundo might have been looking at a more serious charge than simple child endangerment. Thankfully, her baby was unharmed.

These cases are always contentious. Most of the times, parents who leave their kids in cars aren’t “bad” parents. They’re just busy. That busyness leads to thoughtless. And that thoughtlessness ends in the death of a child. If you lay into these parents, someone will inevitably accuse you of lacking compassion. Sorry, but when it comes to the safety of your child, the buck stops with YOU. You should know, with 100% certainty, where your child is at all times. If you fail in that duty, her death is on your head.

I do feel sorry for such parents. I’m sorry that they placed the drama of their lives above the safety of their child. I say that knowing full well that there but for the grace of God go I. Trust me, if I ever did something like this in my haste and ignorance, I wouldn’t be any less harsh on myself than I am on others.

I was a single mother, often with two jobs, for ten years. I have two children now, am running a business and all kinds of other daily BS. There has NEVER been a time when I “forgot” my children.

You’re right, parents like this don’t deserve sympathy. They deserve mandatory sterilization before they breed again and place another child in danger.

It continues to amaze me that you have to have a license to get a dog, but they will let anyone have children.

I don’t forget about my CAT’S. I find it hard to believe that someone can “forget” a kid. Just doesn’t fly. At some point don’t you say “hey, there’s been no screeming, nothing smells like raw sewage, and I took a nap, WHERE’S MY KID???”????

I never understand these stories, like where the parents go to work and leave the kid in the car all day. At some point don’t you wonder why you got to work too early, or just feel like you’re forgetting something?
I have a 2 year old and there has never been a time where I don’t know where he is. Being busy is no excuse to not take care of your kids. If you’re too busy, then DON’T HAVE KIDS!

I know, D. I try and thing “There but for the grace of God go I”. But…no. I don’t see it happening. Make your kids your first priority, and it never SHOULD happen.

I make a bad habit out of leaving my cell phone in my car alot; once in a while I’ll leave my whole purse in the car. One time I forgot a grocery bag in the car and had a can of biscuits explode (a cleaning nightmare). But how in the world do you forget your child anywhere much less in a potential death trap? In the two years my daughter has been on this earth, I have never managed to not have her in some small part of my mind. This is total crap; you can’t forget your child.

i have 2 kids 19 mnts and 5 yrs and i dont give a damn how busy drunk high or whatever else you are u dont forget your kids in a car. And if you are such a busy person then you need to get your priorities straight. This type of shit is happening way too much. These are children does everyone understand that, not toys. Me and my friend sat in my car one day on a ass day with windows up. After 3 mins i felt like i was dying so we got out . These poor kids.

Dumbasses like her do not deserve any compassion. I don’t buy that argument that, “Oh, I forgot my kid.” HORSESHIT! Then you don’t need kids if you are that brainless. There was a case here where some dumb woman “forgot” her kid in the car and he almost died. A relative turned her stupid ass in and he was taken from her, along with her other three children.

I don’t know how anyone can forget their child in a car, no matter what the weather! Anything can happen…someone can abduct the child, someone can run their car into yours…!

I’m a housewife and I take my six-year-old son with me just about everywhere. Not once have I forgotten him!

I’m with you, Alexandria! Any decent mother could never forget her child. Your baby is the most important thing in your life. It’s like with that POS Ashley Duchene (the Hooters mom). There were people on that blog who said that it was possible to forget this and that. Bullshit. I will never believe it. I think that bitch did it on purpose because she was tired of having a kid and wanted to get rid of him. I have no sympathy for people who do things like that to their children. The kids are helpless.
