Paper Behind Bruce McMahan Incest Story Responds to Family’s Spin

by admin on October 12th, 2006

Bruce & Linda McMahan at Westminster AbbeyRegular PBB readers surely remember Bruce McMahan, the millionaire hedge fund maestro who married his own daughter in a secret ceremony. This story was first broke by the Broward-Palm Beach New Times in a lengthy expose. Shortly after that, Parents Behaving Badly was one of the first to report that McMahan appeared to be sending his family members out through the series of tubes that comprise the Internet, and ordering them to debunk the overwhelming evidence behind Schutt’s claims. (I discovered this when McMahan’s rocket scientist son Bruce left an anonymous comment questioning daughter Linda McMahan Schutt’s mental stability…then replied to my follow-up with an email that had his full name on the To line. It reminds me of the line in Out of Sight, when Dennis Farina’s character sees Michael Keaton’s Ray Nicolet wearing a shirt that says “FBI”: “Hey Ray, do you ever wear one that says ‘undercover’? “)

The reverse-smear campaign didn’t go unnoticed by New Times editor Tony Ortega, who follows up on his paper’s piece with additional evidence that the McMahan family is like Brideshead Revisited on smack. Ortega recounts how Linda’s sister Heather tried to convince the media that her father would never sleep with his own daughter…by spilling the details of her own sexual escapades with McMahan Schutt. Ortega goes on in his well-written bitchslap to respond to a family cover story that the alleged pictures of the couples’ (eeew) wedding at Westminster Abbey were from a family trip to Paris. Not so, retorts Ortega, who prints several new shots of the two outside the Abbey. (He says he has dozens more for good measure. I don’t doubt him.)

If this story is a fiction from the mind of Linda McMahan Schutt, it’s one of the most intricate, well-woven fictions to ever come from the mind of a neurotic nymphomaniac. It’s no surprise that Bruce McMahan backed off his lawsuit threats against the New Times the instant their lawyers sat down with his legal team for a chat. Come on, Bruce. Confession is good for the soul.
