Somali Dad in Kentucky Kills Four Kids, Turns Self In
Good Lord. No more than two days ago I wrote about David Crespi, who “snapped” and killed his twin daughters. A couple days before that, I was sharing news of the Rat Poison Murderer, Jim Junior Nice. And now, my wife has brought my attention to this tale of woe from Kentucky. Said Biyad, a 42-year-old Somali immigrant, walked into police HQ in Louisville and told officers there that he had killed his children. Police rushed to his home and found that Biyad was telling the grim truth: all four of his kids - who one news report identified by name as Sidi, Fatuma, Khadija and Goshany, ranging in ages from 8 to almost 3 - were dead.
The police and coroner aren’t detailing yet how the kids died. Biyad’s wife survived the assault with a blow to the head from a blunt instrument, so I’m assuming that the kids were similarly assaulted. The autopsies have already been completed; the family was Muslim, so the ME’s office expedited the procedure in order to accomodate the Islamic belief that the dead must be buried within 24 hours. (Interesting side note: this also appears to be a Jewish custom.)
The family were Samoli Bantus. It’s interesting to note that the Bantus are a “displaced” people even within their own country. A recent report from a refugee conference noted that “[s]ome Bantu refugees may suffer from hopelessness, depression, and nightmares”. Of course, you can probably say the same thing about any arbitrary group of people. In the end, we may never know for certain why Said Biyad went apeshit and laid waste to his offspring. Who can say why some people teeter on the abyss of rage, while others fall into it? Only one thing is certain: Biyad committed a horrible crime, and should spend the rest of his life contemplating this failure in a cold, dark cell.
