“Wicked Stepmother” Given a Sorry Sentence

by admin on September 14th, 2006

HooksWhat’s the going rate these days for forcing your stepkids to gorge, and then digest their own puke? Two to six years, according to the state of West Virginia. Venus Critchfield was sentenced today for abuse that occurred in 2001 and 2002, but that allegedly dates back to 1997. Critchfield’s husband, Jennings Brian Critchfield, is already serving up to 15 years on abuse charges. Besides the vomit allegations, Critchfield was also cited for beating her stepchildren’s feet with boards and dangling them from ropes and hooks.

Is it just me, or does this sentence seem rather light for such abominable treatment? Given the way Judge Alan D. Moats verbally tore her apart, I’m sure he was just sentencing within the guidelines. But, still. This woman shouldn’t see the light of day for at least five years. Minimum.

Hello. I am from WV, and let me say this. If this lady from Philipi (i live only 20 minutes from there) is put in general population in the prison she’s going to here, she wont make it through her sentence easily. TRUST me, her sentence will be one serious hell on earth. People in WV do not take kindly to abusing children. We are probably the most polite, down to earth, courteous, and nicest people anyone could ever meet, however, when you mess with children around here, you end up paying the piper one way or another. Her sentence will be hell if she’s in general population. I am trying to get my people from where I live to sign a petition to INCREASE minimum sentences for these types of sentences. I cannot imagine someone doing something of this nature to one of MY babies and getting off with 3 years max for each count. I just CANNOT imagine. It takes a really sick person to do this, so I really hope that the judicial system has some sort of treatment ready for this wacko when she gets out. Please let me know of any petitions or things of this nature to change legislation etc, that you all know of. People need to suffer more for things they do to innocent children.

I agree with Heather. I, too, am from WV and this makes me sick.

This is disgusting. Sentences need to be stricter for child abusers. I grew up in WV and still work there. I am ashamed at the leniency abusers get.

a loving mother, I have always said the same as you. It’s almost as if the system says that it’s not as bad as what it really is to hurt a child. The disgusting people who do it are never adequately punished. The penalty should be much harsher. It’s the same as saying that kids don’t matter as much as an adult when it should be the other way around.
