Claudia Librett Defender Claims I Have “Issues”

by admin on September 14th, 2006

Claudia LibrettRecently, I wrote about Claudia Librett, the mom who was featured on America’s Most Wanted for abducting her daughter Rachel Marran and taking her to Canada. Librett, according to every court who’s ever reviewed her case, faked a child support claim against her ex-boyfriend Michael Marran in an attempt to rob him of custody. The courts stripped her of full custody over the incident - an extreme measure for American family courts.

Librett is in custody now, and Rachel is back with her dad. But mom appears to have many defenders who claim that she is doing right by her child, and that the abuse claims are real. Here’s commenter "Elizabeth" responding to my request that she produce real evidence that Librett’s accusations are substantiated, after she linked me to a court decision detailing how courts and state agencies had failed to substantiate the abuse claims:

I have had access to court documents and medical records that would give you pause. I am sorry that I cannot provide you with them at this point due to certain legalities.

Ah, the super-secret documents which prove your case but you can’t show me! Of COURSE!! I should have known. How stupid of me to ever doubt you. Would you like your apology signed and notarized, or can I just give it to you over the Internet?

Elizabeth concludes with:

It is obvious to me you have some serious issues

…says the person who’s defending a woman whom no court nor child protection agency employee believes. This is the last resort of every pissed-off commenter on Parents Behaving Badly: to call my character into question, because I dare mock people who kidnap, molest, or kill their own kids.

It takes a lot in America’s family court systems for a mom who has custody to lose it. The courts are inherently biased toward keeping kids with their mothers. And I’m to believe that these "super-secret" documents, which have assuredly been seen by appeals court after appeals court, vindicate Librett? Sorry, but you’d have better luck selling me used swamp land in Kazakhstan.

If anyone has any real, objective evidence that Librett is the victim here - evidence they can actually show the public - I’ll be thrilled to print it. If there’s a miscarriage of justice here, you supporters are doing a horrible job of convincing people that this woman is in the right, and that Michael Marran is the bastard you claim he is.

Personally, I hope that both parents can come to terms with the past and move on. From what I know, this is an extreme case of a parent behaving badly.

I could go into the doctor’s reports, and the court case, and the custody decision, and so on and so forth. I won’t. All it will do is invite “Elizabeth” to republish the mother’s side of the story, which will be read, and will be believed by some. This does not serve justice nor does it serve the child well.

The mother now awaits trial in Pennsylvania on the charges. She will use the same defence that all other protective parents will use, and she will be subject to a light sentence, while dragging both her child and the father into more unnecessary scrutiny. Unfortunately, the “evidence” that she has procured will likely be admitted into testimony for her defence.

The father in this case is used to defending the allegations and he will do so again. The allegations were unfounded, not once, but on numerous occasions. To my knowledge, the father seems only concerned with the child’s concerns. He has stated, publicly, that he wants the mother to have continued involvement in her life, for her sake. Pictures on the web, both before and after the alleged kidnapping, show the child enjoying contact with the father. And the courts, after reviewing the evidence again, have affirmed the reunification plan and have affirmed that he should have custody of the child. I suppose the same people who believe that 9/11 was perpetrated by Bush and the hawks would also believe that all of this was somehow a grand conspiracy to give a sexual abuser custody of a young girl. I don’t think so.

Supporters of the defendent, should try to reconcile the fact that they have been lied to with the fact that the woman appeared to take great care of her kid. Then, they need to do a double take: the kid was told that her father was dead and told to use a new identity. They also need to look at the profiles of parental abductors - they will see that the defendent actually fits a typical profile. And given the very light penalties that these female abductors serve, why not abduct?
