John Hogan Fails to Kill Himself (Again)
Dimitris Xyritakis is none too happy with his own government in Greece at the moment - and murdering dad John Hogan is the reason. I’ve written extensively about Hogan, so I won’t recap the case here; read the archives if you need to get up to speed. Suffice it to say that the overwhelming democratic impulse in the land of Socrates is that Hogan should off himself - and this time, not take one of his own children with him. It seems the folks who run the prison in Korydallos where Hogan is incarcerated agree, as the British father was allowed to slit his own wrists despite being on suicide watch. Apparently, prison officials couldn’t be so negligent as to let the guy bleed to death on their watch, so Hogan will live to see another day…a day his son Liam will never see.

I am a avery close family member of Natashas and you can imagine how angry and devastated that she is. However, even her thoughts do not come as close as your evil and perverse views. John’s family and extended family continue to care for him very much and yes, we do still struggle to understand but we are not inside his head. I sincerelt hope that nothing as tragic ever happens to you, you sad losers.

That what ever happens to me? That I never decide to kill my own kids? Yeah, sorry, don’t see it happening.
Thanks for the courageous comment, “Withheld”.

Yes, withheld because I wouldn’t want any direct contact from such a low life. You’re really not worth any further comment

So John Hogan kills his son, and nearly kills his daughter…but I’m the low life?
GREAT value system you have there.

[…] A guy kills his son and nearly offs his daughter in a suicide jump. I call him an asshole. Apparently, this makes me “evil and perverse”. No wonder the world is in such sorry shape. […]

ROFL!
How perfect! Someone anon defending someone who was suicidal enough to kill his own child and almost kill the other!
And why is it that someone is ALWAYS googling their relatives names?!?!

Sometimes an individual may behave in an unacceptable way and who knows there may be some other reason that could be related to something that has happened in their childhood. Do not judge a person when other facts are unknown; he had already lost two brothers through suicide and also his father through a devastating disease. I understand that this is not an excuse and nor do I defend the man but mental illness is not always an easy issue so please do not be so judgemental when other facts are missing.

I think it’s just fine to judge someone as an asshole who murders their kid, whether or not they’re insane, depressed, bummed out, broke, fat, fired, previously molested, made fun of as a child, craving a Twinkie, etc. etc. Toss me an “evil and perverse” label, willya?

I understand that Mr. Hogan may be mentally ill. But that doesn’t change the fact that he killed one child and attempted to kill another. What would you be thinking, Withheld, if he hadn’t attempted suicide when he killed his son? Would you still be defending him? Somehow I doubt it. For me it doesn’t change the fact that he KILLED his child, and attempted to KILL the other, just because he tried to kill himself at the same time.
Oh and I think that if he wants to die, he should be allowed to kill himself. I feel that we, society, should not force someone to continue to live a life that is unbearable to them.

Well, y’all, looks like you need to pass me on over an “evil and perverse” sticker, because I’m sorry, ‘Withheld’ (I notice that you don’t want to be in direct contact with such a “low life”, but still feel the need to post a comment and get in contact in the first place, but hey, we won’t quibble…) - I don’t buy it.
My dad tried to commit suicide. More than once. He was in hospital for a while afterwards, in the mental health ward diagnosed with severe depression and other problems. He also then ran off and left me and my mother to fend for ourselves and has been eratic in contact ever since. He has caused me hurt, caused me to suffer with self doubt and blame, fear, anger, confusion - a miriad of feelings in the wake of all this, but you know what, guys? He never once tried to KILL me, or anyone else. Only himself.
He’s hurt me, sure. But his possible plans to end it all never involved chucking me off a bridge to end it all with him.
So call me judgmental, call me evil, call me all the names you like, Witheld, and Jane, and anyone else who wants to crop in their tuppence worth because you know what? I don’t care HOW mentally ill or insane he was and is, I don’t care HOW much he may be suffering, or that he’s sorry: all I care about is the fact that when he decided to jump from that bridge, he tried to take THREE lives instead of one. The lives of children. One of which he succeeded in snuffing out.
And my overidding opinion is that he should be allowed to die, because whether his actions were evil or insane (or both) doesn’t matter; they will still earn him a spot in Hell.
And quite rightly, too.

It happens far too often when people are on antidepressants or when they’ve stopped taking them cold turkey. It can happen on an increase of dose, a decrease, or withdrawal.
Homicidality occured in clinical trials but was coded (or MIScoded) along with suicidality by various pharmaceutical companies as “nausea”.
There are several lists that can be found on the internet if you search - the one I am most familiar with is:
http://ssri-uksupport.com/files/homicidesSSRISandADHDmedications.pdf
Though it is often hard to take on board, there are some occasions when the person who is homicidal is a victim as much as those he kills, and there are some occasions where lies about clinical trials leaves the actual responsibility for deaths in OTHER hands.
I feel very sorry not only for his family and the child that was lost, but also for him too.

It might be worth noting that Wyeth, who make the antidepressant Effexor / venlafaxine, even lists homicidality as a rare side effect on their site.

HOUSTON _ A medical watchdog group says a drug manufacturer has not warned the public that homicidal thoughts might be associated with Effexor, the antidepressant that Andrea Yates had been taking before she drowned her five children in 2001.
“Homicidal ideation” was listed last year as one of the drug’s rare adverse events on page 36 of Effexor XR’s label and also on drug maker Wyeth’s Web site…”
The site the article quotes homicidality on Page 36 is this:
and its here - I’ll put it in uppercase surrounded by asterisks so it can’t be missed, its well tucked away:
“…Nervous system - Frequent: amnesia, confusion, depersonalization, hypesthesia, thinking abnormal, trismus, vertigo; Infrequent: akathisia, apathy, ataxia, circumoral paresthesia, CNS stimulation, emotional lability, euphoria, hallucinations, hostility, hyperesthesia, hyperkinesia, hypotonia, incoordination, manic reaction, myoclonus, neuralgia, neuropathy, psychosis, seizure, abnormal speech, stupor, suicidal ideation; Rare: abnormal/changed behavior, adjustment disorder, akinesia, alcohol abuse, aphasia, bradykinesia, buccoglossal syndrome, cerebrovascular accident, feeling drunk, loss of consciousness, delusions, dementia, dystonia, energy increased, facial paralysis, abnormal gait, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, ***HOMICIDAL IDEATION,*** hyperchlorhydria, hypokinesia, hysteria, impulse control difficulties, libido increased, motion sickness, neuritis, nystagmus, paranoid reaction, paresis, psychotic depression, reflexes decreased, reflexes increased, torticollis…’
And finally, another thing that is worth knowing about are these extracts from an expert to a drug regulatory body discussing clinical trial results:
http://www.socialaudit.org.uk/58096-DH%20to%20WARK.htm
“…Reports on these trials list patients who have committed suicide, and list those patients as being of a certain age and as having committed suicide at a certain point during the trial, when the patient in question has a very different age and the event in question happened at a completely different point during the trial…”.
“…Miscoding of suicidal act as emotional lability…”
” …Lilly have resorted to treatment non-response and a range of other headings to code what happened…” [re coding/mislabelling suicidal acts happening on clinical trials]
“…records on Prozac, Seroxat/Paxil and Lustral/Zoloft, you will find cases of homicidality coded as nausea for instance…”
“…Discontinuation of patients from studies for primary adverse effects such as nausea when in fact there has been a suicidal act;…”
“…But it is also worth adding specifically that this has been a feature of all trials of Zoloft/Lustral, Seroxat/Paxil and Prozac throughout…”
Responsibility for homicide isn’t always seen where its expected and unfortunately neither is justice.
