Giving Your Kids Lung Cancer to Cost $100 in California

by admin on August 29th, 2006

Louie AndersonNew legislation approved by the California Senate would make it a misdemeanor to kill your children softly with your smoke. Bill Ab 379 would make it a misdemeanor to light up in the car with your kids present, punishable by a $100 fine. The bill passed 23-14, with many conservatives choosing to fight for mom and dad’s right to unleash carcinogenic chemicals in an enclosed space. (Oh, sure - when Islamic terrorists plan to do it, they’re all like, "Let’s bomb Iraq!" But slap the name "Marlboro" on the canister, and suddenly it’s a Constitutional bellwether. Go figure.)

The heart of this bill is in the right place, but I fear it lacks teeth. I’m all for a more inventive punishment for parents who inundate their kids with second-hand smoke - like, say, locking them in a sauna for 12 hours with Louie Anderson and a vat of baked beans. Talk about preventative legislation!

Let’s agree that we want parent that make better choices. We do not need or want the government making choices for us. Because once you go down that road where does it end. Are they going to fine parents for buying twinkies instead of apples?

    Be safe…

Personally, I’m all for anti-Twinkie legislation. If they go after Ho-Hos, though, I’m gonna be PISSED.
