Foster Parents (Straight Ones!) Leave Boy in Closet to Attend Reunion (UPDATED)
Earlier this month, Pam Spaulding at Pandagon went off on the ridiculous notion that heterosexual foster parents are somehow inherently better than gay foster parents. As if Mother Nature were dying to add another data point to bolster that case, along comes the horrifying story of Marcus Fiesel, a 3-year-old foster kid who was left locked in a closet so that his loving fosters, David and Liz Carroll, could travel out of town out of the motherfucking STATE for a family reunion. The loving pseudo-parents then sent police on a massive manhunt to find Marcus, pretending he was missing, which provided a less-than-perfect cover for the husband to burn the young boy’s corpse.
But, of course that’s preferable to letting Marcus live with a…a…gay couple. Goddess knows what would have happened then. I mean, he might still be alive! And maybe even (gasp!) happy!
Ugh. Ugh and double ugh. I know many gay and lesbian couples who would gladly take in a child such as Marcus, especially if it meant keeping him out of the hands of such depraved bastards. Sadly, I doubt this will compel anybody on the Christian right to cease their vendetta against gay and lesbian parents. And that’s a crime. We need as many options as possible to ensure that kids like Marcus end up in happy homes, and not in a house of horrors.

I couldn’t agree more with you actually. I’m sick to death with people beliving only certain people have the ability to raise children properly. I think gay and lesbian couples would do fine. And for me, cases like this also make me think of other big issues like abortion. I personally would have rather been aborted by my mother that didn’t want me than live the kind of life this little boy was faced to live. I’m just sick over the whole mess. Those people need to fry!

To throw some cold water on these stories, which I’ve been seeing every so often, I’m pretty sure that people like this come in gay as well as straight varieties. And while I understand that the purpose of posting these stories is to point out that straight people can also do the things that prospective gay foster parents are accused of, you will, as adoption laws are liberalized, end up seeing corresponding stories of gay parents who lock their kid in the closet for a week, and the like.

I don’t care if gays adopt. In addition, I’ll say I don’t have a problem with unmarrieds adopting. Though I’m a normal person/christian who also wouldn’t put a kid in a closet while I went out of state.
However, I wish you wouldn’t make these nutjobs the poster couple for faith-based adoption. Clearly there are sickos who claim Jesus, though I’m sure he doesn’t know them.

I’ve generally found that whether a person is a good person or an asshole is distinct from their faith.

This story is so heart wrenching. All child abuse is horrible. It sickens me when I hear of those that lose their temper and hurt a child. {some people can’t handle kids} But to hear about planned, calculated, abuse, is just terrifying to me. ,WHY?? These “foster” demons tied the poor boy up in a closet for 2 days while they went on a trip and burned his body?? WHAT!! HOW CAN ANYONE BE SO COLD AND HEARTLESS? this poor child suffered I’m sure. As a Christian I cringe at both the portrayal of all of us being nutjobs but I also cringe about how many of us prevent potentially loving gay parents from adopting.
Children need love and nuturing and that most certainly can be provided by a gay/lesbian couple. Given the state of foster care we’re a bit idiotic to eliminate a pool of potential great caregivers/parents

WHY in the James Brown does a person’s sexual lifestyle have to be considered when 1 wants to be a parent. I personally know a lesbian couple that adopted a child 2 years ago. HE IS THE CUTEST, HAPPIEST LITTLE GUY! They have men (friends and relatives) in his life but most of all this baby has LOVE! He was adopted from a woman that had 4 other kids and was homeless. So should this baby had been forced either to stay with his homeless mommy and daddy, enter California’s foster system or be given a home where 2 women live as a couple? They provide this baby with a well rounded life. I am thankful for adoptive parents regardless of who they have a relationship. My daddy was adopted. My grandparents were the best! They loved us better than my maternal grandparents! My mom is an only child. 1 would’ve thunk (hahaha) that the maternals would’ve been more loving. Contrary, the paternal ADOPTIVE grandparents were the pillars in the lives of us grandkids. Let’s not knock people that give kids a good home just cause they are homosexual. P.S. I am christian. I am a church usher. BUT I still believe I must NOT hate especially for that reason. That is between them and God. I am soooooo imperfect and I still want God’s love. Actually, having a gay couple adopt is not a good idea. Children do better with parents who are the opposite sex…it provides balance. They’re better adjusted.
Gays want to adopt not because they care about a child, but for their own selfish reasons…same goes for women who want a child but don’t want the father around.
