More Gun Accidents: Son Shoots Self with Illegal 9mm

by admin on August 25th, 2006

9mm gunWow. This could have been so much worse. As it is, 13-year-old Daryl Matthews Jr. had to be rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Wyandanch, Long Island, after finding father Daryl Sr.’s unlicensed nine-millimeter in the trunk of the family car and shooting himself in the hand with it. Well, rushed may be an exaggeration. The firearm was never found - meaning that Daryl Sr. at least took enough time to dispose of the incriminating evidence. Daryl the Elder continued this lesson in ethics at the hospital, where he instructed his son to lie to police about where he found the gun.

No word on how much prison time or how much in fines Daryl Matthews is facing over this flexing of his stupidity muscles. He should consider himself lucky that his son didn’t face the same fate as Geoffrey Wells’ boy. Perhaps the only positive thing that can be said is that Matthews didn’t use the gun on the child himself, like some other bread-winners we’ve chronicled in the past. At least his is a passive stupidity, and not an active malice.

It’s possible that if this was a legal firearm, it wouldn’t have been hidden. “Hidden” firearms are never truly concealed from kids. I almost shot myself once, when I was 8, with a 9mm hidden under the cash register at my father’s garage…

I know Daryl Jr and Sr. The father was found innocent on all charges. The son fully recovered only 2 months after and is playing 3 sports. Father still has full custody of son. Good father. Sorry, bad blog. Needs to be updated or deleted.

To “Parents Behaving Badly”. What do you do when you find information to be false? Bad cops on this case. The father would never do such a thing. He’s a good man. Very well respected. I was told of this blog recently. This is embarrassing both to the father and son. His classmates shouldn’t be able to look this stuff up on the internet. Please do something about this blog.

    John Adams.

I appreciate the comment, thank you. I miss my boy, he was a great kid. He was trained very thouroghly about firearms, what caused his death was his choice. If people choose to live with people who abuse kids and women, bad results happen. My son was being beaten by a boyfriend of their mothers. I wish he would have told me, I would have personaly killed that lowlife.

Talk about bad cops, hell they even stole some of my guns, lowlife criminals with a badge. Their is much I could write about, but I have covered it in my letter to the editor of this website, It is very thourogh.

I would say this, people in America need to wise up about how they live their lives. They also need to not judge people by bull shit from the media, who are lapdogs of police anymore. Anyone who ever has had dealings with lowlifes like this, knows them to be liars and absolutely corrupt. I am talking about your local traffic police, the only police that I have met that have any integrity, are those that work in the probation department. They genuinely want to help people, and are not violent brutal thugs with a badge. Perhaps thats why they dont wear their badges, they dont want to be associated with the common violent police.
