Parents Get Sitter For Dogs, Leave Kids Home Alone
Joshua, 9, and Jacob, 5 - did I mention that Jacob is autistic? - were left to fend for themselves while Dad and Step-Mom were having a blast watching Danny Gans and scarfing $2.00 Shrimp Cocktails over the New Year’s weekend. (On second thought, Gans might be too classy for these two - they seem like the Fremont Street type to me). The kids’ maternal grandmother called the police, after suspecting that the parents had left the two kids alone. It seems that the parents didn’t even bother to tell the kids where they were going. (Yeah, I was thinking the same thing - “Can Jacob and Michelle be any stupider?” Yes. Yes, they can.) It turns out that this wasn’t the first time this had happened; according to Joshua, he had been left alone for a week to care his brother last fall while Dad and Step-Mom took a vacation.
On the plus side, Jacob and Michelle are cosmetic dentists, so no one should feel bad about giving them a nice punch in the mouth.

In reading the SJ Mercury News article regarding these people going to vegas and I was equally appauled at mention of another incident where a mother left her 3 kids (6, 4 and 2) to go to job training at Subway. When the police find the 4 year old outside crying, they end up giving the mom $120, groceries and christmas gifts for the kids.

I can understand the newlyweds wanting time alone together, but TOO BAD if there are small children involved.
I’m a single mom, and sure I would love to be able to take off for a weekend with my boyfriend, but the kid’s NEEDS have to take priority over the parents’ WANTS.
I was wondering where the mother was, but according to the article she died a few years ago.
Those poor kids.

It’s obvious that the witch
stepmother is defining the meaning of stepmother. These women only would care about their husbands. The step children are a nuisance to her so who cares? as long as her beloved dogs are cared for by her mother. And why didn’t the Grandma call the police on Friday and went to help her dead daughter’s kids? These two boys are on their own, and I bet they never felt any love since their Mom died. The older kid is very bright you can tell with the way he talks to the police and the media. He probably took care of his own mother while she was stuggling with life and cancer plus his little brother. Do you realize that they were only 8 and 3 years old then? I hope they will find a family that could give them all the love,attention and care that they need.

I understand that everyone here is coming down on the stepmonster but what about the father? With them being so educated…we should send them back to school to take some parenting classes. I wouldn’t allow any parenting rights to either one of those sick people. I feel really horrible for those kids. With losing their mother (bet she wouldn’t have left them for a hour let alone days) I am totally appauled by this. I hope they won big in Las Vegas because those kids are now stripped from not only their mother, but now their worthless father. The kids are better off. God bless both of them and their grandmother

I find leaving your kids alone to take job training more defensible than A) alone for a weekend and B) going to Vegas.
Their father deserves all the blame, with the stepmother’s help if she knew what the arrangements were.
Acting as if the step-mom had the most responsibility is as silly as saying that it’s the mom’s fault for choosing the dad in the first place. Or dying.
