Parents Get Three Years For Starving Child
Remember the Nickels? Yeah, I had blotted them out of my subconscious mind as well. They were found guilty of attempting to starve their daughter to death. Well, they were sentenced - and I use the term lightly - yesterday.
“I cannot allow what happened to Kayla to ever happen again if I have the ability to stop it,” Judge Joseph Guimond said - then proceeded to give the Nickels a mere 3 years behind bars. Again, I’m left scratching my head. The good news is that the daughter, Kayla, is doing well. She’s gained more than 60 pounds, has grown 6 inches, and has learned to read and write. See, to cover up their crimes, the parents kept her out of school. And she was forced to drink from the toilet. Oh, and the stepdad once pointed a gun at her head after she tried to sneak a piece of pizza.
3 years.
