Father Arrested after Son Kills Self with Unsecured Loaded Weapon
A while back, a good woman named Jeanne Caroline lost her son because someone else’s idiot father left a loaded gun in plain reach. Henderson, Nevada father Geoffrey Wellls has lost his son to gun violence as well - except, in this case, Wells is as much part of the problem as he is victim. Prosecutors are moving to file neglect charges after Wells’ son, Syber Wells, shot himself with a loaded gun that his father had failed to secure.
Let’s not heap all of our scorn on Wells, however. Save some of it for Family Court Judge Cheryl Moss, who heard testimony from his own kids during custody hearings with his ex that he left loaded guns laying around the house. Judge Moss took Wells’ word that he kept the guns locked away, the protestations of his 8- and 10-year-old notwithstanding, and awarded him joint physical custody of his younglings. Nice work, Judge. Fortunately, someone with more grey matter than Moss has now put the kids in full physical custody of his wife while the investigation continues.

I am the estranged wife of geoffrey wells. Judge Moss and Geoffrey Wells are totally to blame for my sons death. Geoff has been charged with one felony and two misdemeanors. It is a shame that we cannot charge Judge Cheryl Moss with stupidity, she is protected by the judicial system.

I am the aunt of syber wells. We all miss him greatly. I have yet to stop crying. I gave an accounting of domestic abuse to the judge for my sister maria, but that wasnt enough. We showed up to give verbal accounts of what was happening, but that wasnt enough. Geoff cursed and yelled and lied in court, but that wasnt enough! Syber, a loving son and super kid died. Is that enough yet, Judge Moss? Is that enough, Geoff?

Well, today once again the judical system has failed. My estranged husband who was charged with a felony (child abuse/neglect) and two misdeamnors for child endangerment, was allowed to plead down to one count (gross misdeamnor) of child neglect. It looks like he will only get probation. The courts and D.A have now let the public know that leaving unsecured loaded weapons in the house, and if a death should accure because of your stupidity, you will not get into trouble. Mr. Wells was ordered to secure his firearms by the courts and he didnt. So even if you are ordered by the courts, you will still not get into trouble. When are the courts going to finally realize that making parents pay with jail time is the only way to make sure our children are safe. I pray and hope that others dont die because of parents reckless disregard for theirs and other childrens safety.

My name is Jeanne Caroline. My prayers go out to you and your family. I know what you are going through, for my beautiful 12 year old son Seanne’s life was in the hands of a man and died because of him. There are no words I can say that will comfort you, nor lessen the pain of your grief, I wish there was. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and always will be. From one Mom to another.

I am Syber’s cousin, Maria and Lisa are my dad’s sisters, my aunts. Thanksgiving wasn’t the same, and I doubt Christmas will be much better. What a surprise, the court system failed again. . . Gee, THATS never happened before. . .

Here is an update on Geoffrey Wells. He was sentenced today. The charge that he plead down to, was a gross misdemenor. He received a 12 month suspended sentence, 3 yrs probation, No firearms possesion allowed and no unsupervised visits with his remaining sons. I am disappointed that he did not receive jail time. But at least my children will be safe, if they have to see him in the near future. I will pray they never have to be left alone with him again.

It amazes me that Geoff will be allowed to see his other children. It hurts my heart to think about what my nephews have gone through, and yet they have to continue to see him? Our whole family has been blown to the wind and we will never be the same. The empty seat in the car…at the table..every holiday is like a hole that can never be filled. I cry now, but I know that Syber will never cry again. This gives me a little peace, to know he can be happy now in heaven. I just didn’t realize how empty this world would be without him. Syber will always be in my heart, but the world has lost more than it can ever know.

Yeah, I’m not so sure that you people should be blaming the law system and the dad for your son’s death. I’m sorry, but just because he left a gun lying around, doesn’t mean that he is the one to blame for his son’s actions. My mom could leave a kitchen knife lying around, and I could slit my throat with it, and it wouldn’t be my mother’s fault. The fact is, your son made the conscious decision to kill himself. I don’t know about you, but if I wanted to take my own life, not having a gun probably wouldn’t stop me.
I’m sorry for your son, but people have to stop blaming the parents and start blaming the kids. It’s not like the father shot him, he shot himself.
