Richard Hatch evading taxes instead of clothing?
Survivor winner Richard Hatch plead not guilty on Monday to tax evasion and other charges, including mail fraud and filing a false tax return. Hatch has been accused of failing to pay income taxes on his Survivor winnings and $355,000 of other income. He is also accused of “misusing $36,500 from a nonprofit camp” that he founded.
We all remember Hatch as the gay naked guy from the first season of Survivor. He is also the adoptive father to a teenaged son. In 2000, Hatch was accused of abusing the then-nine-year-old. The charges were later dropped and the boy continues to live with Hatch.
Of course, Hatch trumpets his innocence, claiming that he thought CBS was supposed to pay for the taxes on his winnings. Come on, Rich! We all know, thanks to Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, that the winner of a game show pays all of the taxes associated with the winnings! CBS asserts that Hatch knew he was to pay the taxes.
Hatch not only faces millions of dollars in fines, if he is convicted, but he could have 75 years in prison ahead of him.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t go to his court date naked.
