Deadbeat Parents Law Requires SS Number for Hunting License
File this one under “politicians behaving badly”. Hunters in Pennsylvania are fuming over a new law that requires them to give their social security numbers to the state gaming commission in order to obtain a hunting license. The law was designed to snare deadbeat parents and others with outstanding legal obligations. Even the gaming commission hates the new requirement, which spokesman Jerry Feaser says forces them to safeguard information they shouldn’t have to keep. Few state officials think the program actually does anything but create bureaucracy and piss off men with high-caliber weapons.
Pennsylvania, we’re as much against deadbeatism as the next responsible parent. But next time, don’t use an elephant gun to shoot a church mouse, eh? I mean, pissing off NRA dues-paying anti-government gun nuts? What the hell were you smoking?
