Mother, Daughter Avoid Jail Time for Beating Cat to Death
You have to wonder what the rest of Emma Cherrett’s childhood was like. The 25-year-old accidentally injured a kitten last year and, instead of taking it to the vet, her mother, Patricia Smith, beat it to death with a hunk of wood. Smith contends the wood-bashing was preferable to paying 170 pounds to have the vet put it out of its misery. One problem: the cat’s injuries weren’t life-threatening. The two have been ordered to pay fines and attend community service. Just don’t ask Emma what happened to the family’s pet rabbit. Stew, anyone?
